Natural-gas use worldwide rose 3.1 percent last year, almost three times faster than the 1.1 percent increase in oil, according to figures compiled by BP Plc. Gas is cleaner-burning than oil and creates half as much carbon dioxide as coal when used to generate power, helping ease the buildup of greenhouse gases blamed for climate change. ... "Clearly, global demand for natural gas is racing ahead,'' Linda Cook, executive director of gas and power at Royal Dutch Shell Plc, the biggest non-government producer of LNG, said at the World Petroleum Congress today in Madrid. ``The question is whether supply can keep pace.'
Calgary January 14, 2008 – Alter Nrg is pleased to announce that it has completed a sale of Plasma Gasification technology, valued at approximately $2 million, through its wholly owned subsidiary Westinghouse Plasma Corporation (WPC). Alter Nrg has received an order from Kiplasma Industries and Trade Inc. of Istanbul Turkey for the supply of four (4) Marc 3A plasma torch systems and the engineering design of the Plasma Gasification reactor. The equipment and design will be used to process 144 tons/day of common hazardous waste materials for the production of electricity. WPC is expecting to ship the plasma torch systems for this order in the second half of 2008 and the facility is expected to begin commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2009.
